What We DoSeltzer Fontaine Beckwith has an extensive local, regional, national, and international client base which we serve through:
![]() We match credentials and chemistry. Seltzer Fontaine Beckwith learns everything possible about each client's practice, client base, and financial performance as well as its needs, goals, and culture. We study each candidate's academic achievement, professional experience, rainmaking potential, interpersonal style, and career objectives. Through our extensive contacts and large database of law firms, attorneys, and corporations, we are able to quickly retrieve the names of appropriate candidates or firms. We have affiliate offices in major legal markets nationwide. We understand that today's legal market is a dynamic one, intensely competitive and constantly changing. Time is more valuable than ever. That is why we carefully screen our clients and candidates before resumes are submitted and interviews are arranged. We don't take your time until we've taken our time. How We WorkIt is our job to conduct searches on behalf of our clients, the many law firms and corporations with whom we work. They pay our fees when we successfully place attorneys who meet their hiring needs; that is, we are client-driven, not candidate-driven. Nonetheless, we do provide services to the candidate attorney. We assist in the preparation of a resume if necessary, discuss with the candidate our current searches which call for a lawyer with his/her qualifications and background, and prepare the candidate for interviews.
Once we have a candidate's resume in our data bank, we seek the candidate's permission to present that resume to particular client(s), and no presentation is made without specific prior authorization from the candidate attorney. It is important that the candidate keep track of all potential employers contacted on his or her behalf from all sources so as not to duplicate efforts. If a client is interested in proceeding with a candidate, we brief both the client and the candidate in preparation for interviews, and facilitate the process until a placement is made or either party decides not to pursue discussions further.
The types of candidate we most often are called upon to locate are attorneys with JD degrees from the top 25 nationally ranked law schools, who graduated at or near the top of their classes, with a stable employment history at top-tier law firms or corporations. More experienced lawyers usually must also have a portable book of business to bring to a new law firm. We handle lateral placement of experienced attorneys only, therefore, we cannot assist current law students or new graduates with less than a year or two of post-bar admission experience.
If you are interested in using our services, please e-mail a resume and, for candidates with five or less years of experience, a law school transcript, as well. Also explain why you are looking and your preferences for a new position. Due to the great volume of candidates who contact us, we are unable to acknowledge receipt of each resume individually. However, your inquiry will be held in strict confidence, and we will contact you shortly if we currently are conducting a search for a candidate with your qualifications or, in the future, should an appropriate position arise.
